Dursey Island

DURSEY ISLAND, which lies off the Beara Peninsula, is a high craggy outpost of mostly rock and grass accessible by Ireland's only cable car.

The island population, today much diminished, survive in three small hamlets stretched along its only road.

A popular destination for walkers, the island attracts many migrant birds and given its uninterrupted sea views is well located for whale and dolphin watching.
